Rams Struggle in the Red Zone as Season Progresses

As discussed last week, the Los Angeles Rams have been atrocious in the red zone this season. Because of that, their attacking potency has plummeted. The Rams only have 26 red zone trips all season. This inflated figure gives them the third most chances in the entire NFL. They’ve only found pay dirt on 13 of those chances. That results in less than one out of every two drives resulting in a touchdown, ranking them 24th in the league. As the team’s struggles have led to pointing fingers from players and coaches in equal measure while they gear up for their next game.

Wide receiver Davante Adams, the Rams’ biggest free-agent recruit, lamented the team’s struggles in the red zone and other key scoring scenarios. He added, “To be honest, it’s not how I drew it up in terms of efficiency.” In particular, he admitted that the quality of the team’s production has fallen short. Adams acknowledged that many of these red zone issues arise from what he called “self-inflicted mistakes” and “timing issues.” He admitted that both he and his quarterback must do a better job with the misconnections.

Last Sunday the Rams played the Baltimore Ravens. They ended up scoring touchdowns on just two of their five red zone tries, a lousy 40% conversion rate. Their misfortunes only compound as they’re the only ACC program to have two red zone turnovers this season. This dismal mark holds them even with five other teams for the second most turnovers in these key areas.
