Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Demarcus Robinson faces a misdemeanor DUI charge following his arrest on November 25. The incident occurred when California Highway Patrol officers stopped Robinson for driving over 100 mph in a white Dodge sedan on US-101 northbound. This charge was officially announced by the Office of the Los Angeles City Attorney to TMZ Sports on Thursday.
Despite the serious nature of the charge, the Rams have opted not to suspend Robinson. Head coach Sean McVay commented on the situation, stating that the team intends to allow the legal process to unfold and will defer to the league's disciplinary measures. He expressed understanding of Robinson's actions, saying, "I think it was a bad decision he made. I don't think that makes him a bad person. And I do believe this is something that with the words that he said, our guys will learn from it, and hopefully nobody's ever going to repeat something like this."
Robinson has been a key player for the Rams this season. He started all 17 games, leading the team with seven touchdown receptions and ranking fourth with 31 receptions and 505 receiving yards. The timing of the charge is critical, as the Rams are set to host the Minnesota Vikings in a wild-card playoff game on Monday night.
The incident transpired prior to the upcoming playoff game, posing questions about Robinson's status and impact on the team. Although arrested for suspicion of DUI, it is essential to note that a confirmed DUI had not been established at the time of his arrest. Robinson is scheduled for arraignment in late February, which may further complicate matters as the playoffs progress.
