Rain proved a menace during the women’s T20 match between Australia A Women and Bangladesh Women. The final was held at Hurstville Oval, Sydney. The match, which began at 02:00, saw Australia A Women winning the toss and choosing to field. Officiating the match was Lauren McGill, Clare Haysom, and Sarah Elliott.
Although things begun brightly, rain soon interrupted play on match day, making it impossible to witness the exciting action of cricket. Even more remarkable, the team that batted first was able to score 88 runs. They achieved this while winning by the loss of only 4 wickets, and in only 5 overs! Sadly, because of the rain, we did not get the second team’s batting order.
It was a mixed back from the Australia A Women with the ball. Hannah Darlington was the pick of the bowlers, bowling 5 overs for 47 runs. Non-bowlers Lauren Cheatle, Tess Flintoff, Charli Knott, and Heather Graham all bowled 0 overs. They allowed 6, 5, 6 and 5 runs in those games. No other information was provided about the bowlers’ economy rates.
Though snowy weather was a pivotal factor in stopping the momentum of this highly awaited rematch. Despite the hopes of the players and officials for clearer skies, the rain continued to fall, bringing the match to an unsatisfactory conclusion with scores still tied.
