Durham were chasing a quarter-final berth from the North Group of the Vitality T20 Blast. Scheduled to begin at 18:15 BST on Tuesday, the game was called off at 20:05 BST without a ball being bowled, leaving both teams with two points from the no-result.
Durham are now third in the North Group on 30 points. They remain very much in contention for a place in the last eight! The team were originally due to face Surrey at the same venue on Tuesday. That tie itself was a result of rain disrupting play too. With an ever-growing list of no-results against Leicestershire, this keeps them clearly within range of those top four places.
Leicestershire, currently in fifth on 26 points, are just outside the quarter-final qualifying spots. Even after the washout, they continue to wish the turn around into town to arrive. A victory in that game would dramatically improve their prospect of moving on in the highly competitive tournament.
As the group stage heads towards its conclusion, Nottinghamshire is stuck in seventh. Still, they do hold a game in hand on most of their competitors. With an outside chance to force their way into the top four, Nottinghamshire’s fortunes in the coming week’s matches will be vitally important.
