Quinton de Kock, the gifted young South African cricketer has been in the headlines for all the right reasons. He’d made the momentous decision to end his retirement from 50-over internationals! The 32-year-old wicketkeeper batsman announced his retirement from One Day Internationals (ODIs) after the 2023 World Cup in India. He makes it back at the nick of time! South Africa gets ready for an enthralling series of ODIs and T20I matches against Pakistan.
Since his last appearance for the Proteas in June 2024, during the T20 World Cup final, De Kock has focused solely on T20 leagues around the world. He played in many of the most prestigious, high-stakes tournaments. These were the SA20 in South Africa, the Indian Premier League, Major League Cricket and the Caribbean Premier League. Despite being away from international cricket, he has maintained a reputation as one of the best white-ball batters of the past decade.
De Kock’s record is stellar. He had 21 ODI centuries since making his debut in January 2013. Indian cricket icons Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are the only players to score more runs than him in the same period. His list of accomplishments put him in a class of key assets for the South African national team. They focus forward to some very sobering competitions, particularly the subsequent 12 months’ T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka and the 50-over World Cup in 2027, which South Africa will co-host.
