Quentin Grimes, raring to go against the Philadelphia 76ers. He is getting ready to help ensure that the team’s deep backcourt can be one of the best in the NBA this season. The 25-year-old guard had been acquired by the 76ers at the February trade deadline from the Dallas Mavericks in a separate four-player trade. He’s been a dynamic force, averaging 21.9 ppg and 4.5 apg in 28 games with the NBAGL squad last season.
Grimes took some big steps in his game last year. He experienced profession highs in factors, averaging 14.6, rebounds (4.3), assists and steals. He proved that scoring with extreme efficiency, surpassing 30 points in five individual contests. Unbelievably, he even hit the 40-point plateau twice during that run. This new offensive prowess has made him a staple in the team’s rotation as they head into a new season.
The entire public negotiating process between Grimes and the Philadelphia 76ers has been a circus. The club’s first offer had been a very fair four-year, $39 million deal back on September 24 that Grimes turned down. His aides offered a one-year plan worth $17 million. They even provided a two-year, $34 million offer with a player option, dropping the no-trade clause.
Grimes settled on a one-year, $8.8 million deal. Under the terms of this new agreement, he pockets $100,000 more than his original qualifying offer. This deal lets him stay rooted in Philly while keeping one foot out the door in case he wants to leave down the line.
Entering unrestricted free agency next summer, Grimes will have the opportunity to explore various options when at least ten teams are expected to have significant salary cap space available. He has further secured the power to veto every trade made in the 2025-26 season. This new ability dramatically increases his leverage going forward.
Grimes was selected with the No. 25 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Since being added to the collective of creatives working under the Philadelphia team, he’s easily become one of the most vital assets.
