In a thrilling encounter during the SA20 tournament, the Pretoria Capitals edged out the Joburg Super Kings by a narrow margin. The contest served as a showcase for top NCAA talent on both squads. Producing Smead and Parsons were the high marks, while leading the charge for the Barbarians’ deep run.
Smeedy opened the batting for the Capitals and turned in a solid performance with the bat, scoring 29 off 26 balls. His innings featured four fours and one six, a reflection of his hard hitting approach. In his time at TFL, Smeed demonstrated a remarkable knack for identifying gaps in the field. His ability to rotate the strike proved key in helping his side post a challenging total.
Bryce Parsons was instrumental for the Super Kings, scoring 33 off only 22 balls. Parsons provided a thrilling knock with one four and an astonishing three sixes! His capability to clear the boundary certainly protected the scoreboard flowing. His positive intent took the pressure off the Capitals’ bowlers and he played a key role in building the match’s tension on Day 1.
The bowling attack on both sides was filled with tenacity and sound discipline. For the Capitals, Wiaan Mulder and D Jansen each bowled a solitary over. At the other end, Gleeson and Smit made it even worse for Northants with two wickets apiece. Gleeson was expensive, conceding just 17 runs off his 4 overs while Smit gave away even more, a total of 23 runs in his spell. Hosein bowled two unscathed overs, which only helped to lengthen the list of bowling objects present in the aforementioned arsenal.
