The 2025-26 NBA season couldn’t be starting with any more excitement, as teams around the entire league jockey for position on their march to greatness. Through one week of regular-season play, the Minnesota Timberwolves have made their claims. At the same time, the Oklahoma City Thunder are continuing to find their groove, as others continue to look for their stride. The Timberwolves are off to a hot 2-2 start. They have a difficult road in front of them, particularly with star player Anthony Edwards out at least two weeks with a hamstring strain. On the other hand, the Thunder is now 5-0, demonstrating that they are the ones to beat this season.
The Atlanta Hawks, currently at 1-3, and the Charlotte Hornets, at 2-2, are looking to improve their standings as they prepare for their upcoming matchups. The Hawks’ first game will be against the Brooklyn Nets on October 29. Simultaneously, the Hornets will be squaring off against the Memphis Grizzlies. This year, the Dallas Mavericks are that team, sitting at an abysmal 1-3 on the season. Meanwhile, on the other end of the standings, the Golden State Warriors can’t be stopped at 4-1, thanks to their talented trio starring exactly when it counts most.
Timberwolves Struggle Without Edwards
After an up-and-down first few games, the Minnesota Timberwolves are 2-2 and hopeful that their third season with the current core bears fruit. Lacking Anthony Edwards might be the thing that stops their train the most. Edwards is expected to miss about two weeks with a hamstring strain. He may have experienced the worst possible version of this setback on Sunday. His absence creates an enormous void in the Timberwolves’ offensive attack.
Even with that huge setback, teammate Karl-Anthony Towns continues to express his optimism for this team. He stated, “As long as we win, I don’t care. That’s the last thing on my mind.” The Timberwolves kick off their preseason with the Los Angeles Lakers on October 29. From there, it’s marquee matchups with the Charlotte Hornets and Brooklyn Nets to start early November!
The team will need to rally together without their star player, focusing on team chemistry and effective communication on the court. Surviving and thriving through this difficult transition, they’ll learn to lean on other important constituents. These people need to lead and be the voice that Edwards is no longer providing.
Thunder Continue Their Winning Streak
The Oklahoma City Thunder have established themselves as one of the top teams in the league with their impressive 5-0 record. This impressive beginning has largely been due to an all-around team effort and several key contributors. For the Thunder, dodging bad habits and stamina breaking an otherwise terrific run will be key as they advance deeper into the campaign.
Fans and analysts alike are eagerly anticipating the Thunder’s improvement this season. They are curious how the youthful squad hardens its playoff position in the Western Conference. With each game, the team is demonstrating resilience and determination, which could set them up for playoff contention later in the season.
In explaining their surprisingly strong start, first-year head coach Mark Daigneault noted their collective execution and teamwork. Nearly two years later, the Thunder are still focusing on what they do well while helping what doesn’t.
Other Teams in Focus
It’s not just the White Sox — eight other teams have taken center stage as the season unfolds. The Golden State Warriors completed an impressive week at 4-1 on the year. Head coach Steve Kerr praised his team’s performance, particularly noting one player’s contributions: “The way he’s rebounding, the way he’s attacking the rim, that’s what makes him special. When he’s playing to that talent, to that ability, it changes our team.”
The Atlanta Hawks opened the week the same way they started the season—with a 1-3 record, signaling a bad year ahead. They’ll look to right the ship against the Brooklyn Nets and Indiana Pacers in the coming days. Above all else, the Hawks need to establish a more stable performance in-game if they hope to re-enter the playoff race.
The Charlotte Hornets are 2-2 on the young season. They are looking forward to their next challenge as they face Memphis and Utah. They’re going to have to take advantage of these opportunities to build their credibility before then having to go up against legitimate competition.
