Brandin Podziemski, the second-year guard for the Golden State Warriors, recently had debridement surgery on his left wrist. The surgery was performed on Tuesday and made public in a statement from the Warriors. Podziemski is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for the start of training camp.
The 2023 season proved to be a watershed for Podziemski’s career. Offensively, he averaged 11.7 points per game and made a larger impact than the basic stats would suggest. His vocal performance was nothing less than earth-shaking, ensuring his place in the team for years to come. Podziemski really turned it on during the postseason. He averaged 11.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists in those 11 games, further exposing his rare talent.
Podziemski struggled mightily at the postseason showcase. Even when he was clearly struggling at the beginning in shooting 9-of-40 during the first four games of a second-round series, he still displayed incredible bounce-back instincts. He punched in 28 points during Game 5 with an eye-opening 11-of-19 shooting. Although they lost, his debut showed just how impactful he can be on the floor.
Podziemski’s surgery and the timing of it is reminiscent of another Warriors guard, Moses Moody, who had a similarly timed procedure done in the offseason. The Warriors’ hope is that the injuries won’t hamper either player long term and that they’ll be able to make big impacts in next year’s training camp.
