The Detroit Pistons ended their long-standing losing streak against the Boston Celtics with a decisive 20-point victory on their home court, marking an impressive eighth consecutive win. The Pistons dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Celtics 49-33, and capitalized on a strong third quarter to secure the win. This triumph not only snapped Boston's winning streak against Detroit dating back to February 16, 2022, but also tied the Pistons with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the longest active win streak in the NBA.
The Pistons showcased a balanced offensive attack led by Malik Beasley, who scored 26 points. Cade Cunningham added 21 points and 11 assists, while Jalen Duren contributed 13 points and 11 rebounds. Their efforts helped Detroit seize control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring Boston 35-24 and taking a commanding 90-79 lead into the fourth quarter.
This victory marks a significant milestone for the Pistons, as they ended a 12-game losing streak against the Celtics. It is also the first time since the 2008 season that Detroit has won eight straight games in a single season, when they last achieved a 10-game win streak from January 23 to February 13.
On the other hand, Boston struggled to maintain their recent momentum. Jayson Tatum led the Celtics with 27 points, while Derrick White and Payton Pritchard each added 18 points. Despite their efforts, the Celtics fell short, suffering their second-largest loss of the season, just one point shy of their biggest defeat.
Prior to this loss, Boston had been on an impressive run, winning six straight games and 10 out of their last 11. However, the Pistons' well-rounded performance proved too much for the Celtics to handle this time around.
