Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a finger tendon injury. The foot injury, suffered on March 3, has prevented Maxey from playing to the best of his ability even after trying to rehab his way back. As he’s still dealing with heel pain, the 76ers are in serious trouble in their quest towards what would be a highly successful season.
For reference, Maxey is in the middle of an exceptional, career-best season at 26.3 points per game on 58 percent shooting. He’s added 6.1 assists and 3.3 boards per 52 game appearances. He gave an All-Star worthy performance this year that earned him a trip to his first All-Star game. He received accolades as the NBA’s Most Improved Player for the 2023-24 season. The injury has taken a major toll on his ability to help the team.
The Philadelphia 76ers, an NBA team, are hell-bent on retaining their own first-round draft choice. This pick is lottery protected and only conveys if it’s in the top six. If the pick remains in that range, the team will keep it. If it falls somewhere between seventh and thirtieth overall, then it must be sent to the Oklahoma City Thunder. This pick used to be owned by the Thunder through the Al Horford-Danny Green trade that occurred five years ago.
As Maxey travels the road back to recovery, he’ll need more treatment for the foot injury. His health uncertainty further increases the heat on the 76ers. They are having a really hard time adjusting to the impact of life without him. Maxey’s injury creates a huge void in Philadelphia’s starting five. Now, they need to immediately shift their plans and find other ways to make up for his absence.
