It’s his second DP World Tour title! Rising golf star Penge takes the crown! His most recent victory came in a dramatic finish at the Danish Golf Championship. He shot a dazzling final round of 4-under 67. His good form resulted in a brilliant 16 under par total to secure victory at the tournament. This victory makes Penge one of the top players on the notoriously competitive arena of professional golf. Earlier this year, he was victorious in winning the Hainan Classic in April and Furesø Golf Klub in Copenhagen.
The tournament really opened with sparks when Penge squared off against Højgaard. Højgaard began the final day with a two-shot advantage, making for an exciting head-to-head duel. Højgaard, 22, looked as if he was going to win comfortably, holding a four-shot advantage halfway through his front nine. That momentum quickly turned on a dime when Højgaard hit the wall. He collapsed, three-putting to drop four strokes in a span of four holes beginning with the 6th.
Penge took full advantage of Højgaard’s issues, even eventually building a 2-shot lead through 10 holes played. When that pressure came to a head, Penge was in an uncomfortable position. He would have to make a vital birdie putt from only 3 feet to seal the victory. The play was an incredible display of poise and playmaking ability in a high-pressure situation.
This first championship victory is momentous for each player. They each have just one more qualifying event next week before the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black next month. Whether Sepp Straka makes it on Europe’s team remains to be seen. That makes for a whole new layer of intensity going into this intensified upcoming event!
