New Orleans Pelicans provides major injury updates on Jordan Poole, Herb Jones. Poole has been reactivated for on-court basketball activities after sitting out the last ten games with a left quad strain. This news is a relief for the creative team, as they continue to add talent to Megalopolis’ burgeoning lineup in advance of its release.
On the heels of their big win over Dallas, the Pelicans announced that Herb Jones, probably their best overall defender, will miss at least a week. He’s currently working through a moderate strain in his right calf. Jones is even more important to that mix on the Pelicans’ regularly league-leading defense. This year, he’s contributing 9.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.4 steals a night. After making four starts in his first seven games, he’s now earned a spot in the 11 for good. That underscores his value on both sides of the ball.
Poole’s absence had hurt the Pelicans dearly. The team to deflect at least ten games without his defensive and offensive contributions. With his return, Poole aims to enhance the Pelicans’ offensive capabilities and provide much-needed support as they continue their season.
With Herb Jones likely missing a chunk of the season, that’s proven to be a significant hole in their defensive strategy. At the same time, his on-court presence is important, given his unique ability to ruin opposing offenses with his defensive chops. The team is to re-evaluate his condition in one week and are optimistic on a speedy recovery.
Making the division all the more exciting, the New Orleans Pelicans just welcomed back star power forward Zion Williamson. He returned on November 19 after missing the first eight games with a hamstring injury. With his return, the roster has become exponentially stronger. It has improved the entire team’s competitiveness as they look to gain an advantage going into their spring slate of matches.
The confluence of these events paints a rosy, albeit complicated, picture for the Pelicans. While Poole’s return offers a boost to their offensive play, Jones’ absence poses a challenge defensively. So the Pelicans will need to change their approach with that in mind as they head into all of these next few weeks.
