Paul George’s Season Cut Short as Injuries Force Him Off the Court

Paul George's season with the Philadelphia 76ers has come to an early end as the star player has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to persistent injuries. Over the past month, George has grappled with multiple ailments, including issues with his groin, finger, and knee. Despite receiving painkiller injections for five consecutive games ahead of the NBA All-Star break in February, his condition has not improved.

George's injury woes began in January when he injured his left pinkie. This was compounded by a left groin soreness that has kept him out of Philadelphia's last four games. Earlier in the season, George hyperextended his left knee in November and missed three games as a result. The issue first appeared during the preseason, causing him to sit out the initial five games of the regular season.

After joining the 76ers on a four-year, $212 million max deal in July following five seasons with the LA Clippers, George's performance on the court has been hindered by his health struggles. In 41 games this season, he averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists. His efforts to push through these injuries have included receiving injections in his left adductor muscle and left knee.

The decision to end George's season comes after a week of consultations with doctors regarding his groin and knee injuries. Meanwhile, George has also decided to step away from his podcast, "Podcast P with Paul George," to concentrate on his health and help turn around the 76ers' season.

"I haven't been the healthiest, so it's just been putting a ton of work towards getting my body as healthy as possible, and to keep focus of obviously being here and trying to turn things around here and the full focus is trying to get this team together." – Paul George

The absence of George is a significant blow to the 76ers, who began the 2024-25 season as one of the title favorites. However, with their star player sidelined, they now find themselves focusing on their lottery draft pick prospects. This season has not met expectations for both George and the 76ers.
