Packers Open to Trade Offers for Jaire Alexander Amid Injury Recovery

The Green Bay Packers are reportedly open to trade offers for star cornerback Jaire Alexander, according to sources. Alexander, who has been with the Packers since being drafted in 2018, has faced challenges with injuries, limiting his participation to just seven games each in the past two seasons. Despite a recent knee surgery to address a PCL injury, Alexander is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for the upcoming season.

Alexander's lucrative four-year, $84 million contract has two years remaining, with substantial payouts scheduled for 2025 and 2026. Trading Alexander could free up $6.8 million in salary cap space for the Packers this offseason. General Manager Brian Gutekunst, speaking at the NFL scouting combine, was noncommittal about Alexander's future with the team.

"He certainly could be, but I think we'll work through that as we go."

The Packers have engaged in trade discussions concerning Alexander, as confirmed by NFL Network reports. Any team acquiring Alexander would have the opportunity to renegotiate his contract terms. Currently, his contract stipulates payments of $17.5 million in 2025 and $19.5 million in 2026.

In addition to his on-field prowess as a two-time All-Pro cornerback, Alexander's agent is known for being both skilled and effective. However, Alexander himself has remained tight-lipped about his future with the Packers. On the final day of media availability at the end of the season, he declined interviews, stating that he had "nothing good to say" and was uncertain about his return to the team in 2025.

Gutekunst's comments at the combine indicate a willingness to explore trade possibilities but emphasize that direct negotiations by agents are not typically permitted.

"We've never really allowed agents to go out and talk to teams."

Despite his recent challenges, Alexander's potential availability on the trade market could attract significant interest from teams seeking to bolster their defensive line-up. The decision to entertain trade offers marks a pivotal moment for both Alexander and the Packers as they navigate the uncertainties of the offseason.
