Pacific Palisades Wildfire: Paul George Among Those Affected by Devastating Blaze

A wildfire ignited in the Pacific Palisades area on January 7, leaving destruction in its wake and affecting high-profile residents, including NBA star Paul George. The fire has devastated approximately 5,000 structures and remains a significant threat as it rages about 20 miles west of downtown Los Angeles. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection listed the Palisades Fire as one of three active wildfires in the Los Angeles area as of Sunday night.

George's home in Pacific Palisades sits a mere two blocks from the blaze, yet it remains standing for now. However, a friend residing in his home has evacuated in compliance with recent orders. George, who is currently in Philadelphia with his wife Daniela and their three children, keeps a close watch on the fire's progress through internet updates. The fire is reported to be only 13% contained as of Monday morning, causing significant concern for George and others impacted.

"I've been getting some feedback as much as I can," said George. "The area is blocked off to go to my house. So, the people that are able to have been giving me feedback that the house is still standing."

The fire has deeply affected the community, known for its luxurious homes, verdant landscapes, and close-knit neighborhoods. Several high-profile individuals, including Draymond Green, Kawhi Leonard, and Russell Westbrook, also feel the impact of the fire. George expressed his sorrow for friends and residents who have lost their homes.

"I've seen a couple friends, people that I've known since I've been in the community [that have lost homes]. My kids [went] to the schools in that area. Close friends that we've made over the past five years, we've heard about them losing their homes and it's sad."

"And their parents have lost homes that they grew up in. And so, it is a sad time out there."

Despite the challenges posed by the wildfire, George remains focused on his professional commitments. He has been performing consistently well, averaging 21.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 7.0 assists per game in January.

"I'm just getting more in tune with my body and then facing reality of some nicks and bruises that I had to kind of adjust to," George shared.

"But I think the more games, [the] more shots I put up, there is a better rhythm to kind of find, and that's really just been the key."

George also expressed gratitude toward first responders battling the blaze and providing assistance to those affected.

"Obviously, it's a challenging time, but I do appreciate first responders, paramedics, firefighters, everybody that's kind of helped lead the charge," he remarked.

The Pacific Palisades fire serves as a stark reminder of nature's power and unpredictability. The area, cherished for its beauty and community spirit, now faces a formidable challenge as residents and authorities work tirelessly to control the flames and rebuild what has been lost.
