The Denver Nuggets defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in an exciting overtime game. With this victory, they went up 2-1 in their playoff series. The match took place at the Ball Arena in Denver, home of the Colorado Avalanche. The Nuggets responded with a vengeance after falling by an embarrassing 43-point margin in Game 2. With key contributions from multiple players, the Nuggets demonstrated resilience and skill as they fought to reclaim momentum in the series.
Chet Holmgren’s big first half carried the Thunder to win. He finished with 16 points and seven rebounds to boot! He continued to lead OKC with a total of 18 points, showcasing his potential as a vital player for the team. Further illuminating this strange contest, little-known Jalen Williams had a breakout game with 32 points and that’s the Thunder rookie. Unfortunately, all of his hard work didn’t quite add up to a victory.
The Nuggets had a balanced offensive attack for the entire game. Nikola Jokic, dressed as the DC Comics villain Joker for the occasion, contributed significantly with 20 points and 16 rebounds. His outfit wasn’t the only thing that drew attention as he fully leaned into his role as the villain in that must-see contest. Denver’s Michael Porter Jr. was that guy for the championship game. He hit his first five attempts, including three three-pointers, and ended up with a very solid 21 points. Jamal Murray contributed 27 points and Aaron Gordon scored 22 points to help fill the basket.
It appears that this game was hard fought throughout as the Nuggets never led in regulation by more than two points. As the game time ticked toward empty, the Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander made an important 12-foot jump shot. He blew it, missed with only three seconds left, forcing the game into OT.
It was in that extra period that the Nuggets really hit their stride and led an 11-2 run to secure their win and upset. Even in overtime, tension hung in the air up until the last moments. Nikola Jokic had an opportunity to win it for Denver but missed a 19-foot jumper at the buzzer, leaving fans on edge.
The fourth game of this best-of-seven series will take place in Denver on Sunday. Both sides are desperate to establish their game plan and take an overwhelming advantage in the series. The winner of that game will likely determine the course of the playoffs for both franchises.
