The group stages of this year’s T20 Blast went out on a high note. Nottinghamshire’s 18-year-old young off-spinner, Farhan Ahmed, was the star-turn as he grabbed the third hat-trick of this year’s competition. His extraordinary achievement is part of Nottinghamshire’s consolation win against Lancashire at Trent Bridge. This victory showcased the extraordinary gifts that Ahmed possessed. Hampshire ultimately qualified due to their better run-rate in the group, even after suffering a dramatic loss to Essex. The players endured a heart-stopping suspense to find out if they would move on. In the end, their consistent effort during the entire tournament really delivered.
Kent’s Tawanda Muyeye, a regular on the fringe of the England set-up this season, was the T20 Blast’s leading run-scorer and is a future star. His regular big performances have been the bedrock of Kent’s fairytale, successful campaign. They have proven to be a dangerous rival as they move into the quarter-finals.
Northamptonshire’s David Willey exploded with astonishing batting out of the blocks! He clobbered six maximums in a phenomenal 32-ball innings, scoring 63 runs in the process. His attack against South Africa was a statement of his match-winning potential in only a handful of overs. It further underscored the extreme cutthroat nature of the tournament.
Alex Lees of Durham rocked the world by hitting his first Blast century. This success points to his promise as one of the up-and-coming stars in T20 cricket.
