Nottinghamshire Dominates Yorkshire with Impressive 487 Total

On day two of their 69-day long County Championship enthronement, Nottinghamshire put on a master class against Yorkshire. At their height, they scored an unfathomable 487 runs. Their first innings score of 298 for six gave the side a good foundation to build from. They were soon off to a flier, putting together an impressive 155 in the morning session and only losing two tops all day.

Ishan Kishan and Liam Patterson-White each played major hands for Nottinghamshire, scoring 87 runs each to propel the visitors’ innings. Kishan’s aggressive knock came from 98 balls and included an impressive array of shots, featuring 12 fours and a six. Kishan had a bit of good fortune too, being dropped at mid-wicket on 44 runs. This occurrence propped him up to create a very large lead.

Also instrumental to the team’s success was PattersonWhite, who scored 87 runs to equal Kishan’s contribution with the bat. His partnership with Kishan was crucial for Nottinghamshire, as the two solidified their stranglehold on the contest.

Dillon Pennington continued to solidify the team’s overall production with a career-high 61 runs. He scored his half-century in only 39 balls, showing his hard-hitting batting talents. This collective effort from Nottinghamshire’s batting lineup placed them in a strong position as they moved ahead in the contest.

Yorkshire’s bowling attack had plenty to admire, spearheaded by progressive left-armer Dan Moriarty, who took four for 91, the tigers den’s teaching attacks on a rabbit. He punched above his weight for Yorkshire with his performance, delivering key advances. The score wasn’t sufficient to halt the stream of runs coming from the Nottinghamshire batsmen.

As day drew to a close Yorkshire in some ways could only have hoped to have responded with 154 for three. The home side star was certainly Finlay Bean, with a stellar unbeaten 86 run performance. At times, he showcased tremendous perseverance when going up against the Nottinghamshire bowlers. James Wharton backed him up with a good knock of 36 runs to stabilise the innings.

Yorkshire’s batsmen were already under pressure after Mohammad Abbas had taken one for 19 runs for Nottinghamshire. Yorkshire will take heart from their resistance and work hard to build further on their tally. They are hell bent on seeking to hunt down Nottinghamshire’s mammoth score over the next few days of action.
