In short, linebacker Noah Sewell has been put into concussion protocol after a very scary scene during last week’s game against Arizona. The injury took place during the second quarter, forcing his withdrawal for the rest of that continuing to play. Witness reports that Sewell was later observed leaving Northwest Stadium in an ambulance understandably fueled immediate fears for his health.
Head Coach Johnson made the announcement soon after the game, saying that Sewell is under concussion protocol. Prior to the ambulance departing, there wasn’t an indication that Sewell had sustained any injury. This absence of evidence makes the fear for the worst all the greater.
Besides Sewell’s injury, Johnson spoke on another player, WR Moore, whose condition raised some eyebrows. Even after being on the field for all but one snap against the Gators and with three receptions for 42 yards, Johnson still termed Moore’s injury as “day-to-day.” However, he upped the ambiguity when he refused to give specifics about the circumstances under which Moore’s injury occurred.
The timing of these injuries calls into question the team’s overall health and preparedness, as they look to get back on track in their fourth season. Clearly fans and analysts (including yours truly) will be watching intently for news on both players in the coming days.
