Joaquín Niemann is deep in the mix at this week’s LIV Golf event across the pond in the United Kingdom. He’s first in line to grow his new roster of winners! The young Chilean golfer has already racked up four wins this season. He is now understandably keen to build on his notable victories in Adelaide, Singapore, Mexico City and Virginia. As he heads to the final round, Niemann is lighting it up at 14-under par. He shot a dazzling 8-under 65 on Saturday at the JCB Golf and Country Club in Rocester, England.
Niemann impressed all with his ridiculous putting throughout the round. Please enable JavaScript to view the comments powered by Disqus. Filed under: Green Scene Tagged, Courses His execution was highlighted by five birdies coming on the front nine, featuring a remarkable spell of three straight birdies. All things considered, he capped off the day with nine birdies and just one bogey — a 4 at the par-4 15th hole. At this event last year, Niemann went on to finish T2. This year, he’s focused on taking it a step further and coming in first place.
The course has been all-around lucky for Niemann, as he stated that it’s “a great course for my sight.” His confidence is helped too by the performance of his team on the ground. Niemann’s Torque GC has a comfortable lead in the team championship, sitting at 24-under par for the moment. They’re three shots in front of Legion XIII. The squad is still aiming to win its first crown since 2013.
Niemann, keeping his eyes on the championship round, has doubled down on his determination to come out on top. We know we’re capable of doing it. We’ve been just a couple opportunities away from being really close,” he said. His teammate Carlos Ortiz has been key to the team’s success, currently sitting tied for sixth at 6-under par.
Bubba Watson, a competitor in the tournament, remarked about Niemann’s impressive abilities. As he said, “He’s playing so good, you don’t expect him to do nothing, like go backwards.” Watson acknowledged the unpredictable nature of golf, mentioning that wind direction and pin setups could influence play but emphasized the determination of his team. “We’re going to give it our all and then hopefully that’s good enough,” he said.
With one round to go, Niemann is looking forward to a special day for the event’s players and fans. He promised that everyone will want to return for tomorrow, which he said is shaping up to be a very exciting day. Full disclosure—we want all four of them to score terribly low.
