Nicolas Jackson has made his loan move to Bayern Munich official, completing his loan move from Chelsea. The agreement contains a contractual purchase requirement. On September 1, the transfer took effect. This business is important for the player and for the Bundesliga winners. The original deal included a £13m loan fee and £70m permanent transfer option. Now, the game has flipped, and the loan fee has increased to £14.25 million.
The Jackson transfer saga started all the way back on August 7 when Munich first showed their interest in Jackson. Chelsea had even larger, internal discussions about what to do with Jackson’s future after Bayern submitted an offer on August 29. So it was a significant breakthrough when Chelsea finally let Jackson travel to Germany. He was scheduled to have a medical and complete the transfer on August 30th.
Trouble soon followed when Chelsea wanted Jackson to come back to London after his medical. Even still, Jackson stayed behind in Germany, a man intent on making the deal with Bayern Munich work.
Negotiations and Challenges
Jackson’s transfer may have paved the way — but it was a rocky road to get there. After Liam Delap’s hamstring injury on August 30, Chelsea pulled out of the loan. This forced Bayern Munich, interested in Jackson’s services, to resume talks with Chelsea on September 1 to get the deal over the line.
As anyone on the ground knows, conversations escalated in a moment’s notice. In turn, Jackson was able to negotiate a new deal to Bayern on a loan with the revised fee. The add-on terms included a force Bayern to buy Jackson for £56.25 million, based on his games played.
There was a lot of sleepless nights, experienced Jackson’s agent, Ali Barat, when negotiating them. As he said, “It all felt really hopeless on Saturday night. We weren’t leaving Munich without doing every last thing we could to try and bring it home. His passion and doggedness were rewarded in the end as Jackson helped get his client’s contract with Bayern across the line.
A Positive Outcome
Following some good old-fashioned complicated negotiations, Chelsea and Bayern were able to come to an agreement that worked for everyone. Barat thanked Chelsea for their willingness to work with them during the entire process.
“We want to pass on our thanks to Chelsea for facilitating the move. We totally understood their situation, but they also appreciated the position Nico was in.” – Ali Barat
So it is no surprise that Bayern Munich’s desire to sign Jackson captured headlines around the globe. Barat applauded their work, saying, “He was very committed to making the move, and they went above and beyond to accommodate him. I want to give a huge shoutout to Bayern too, man. Their desire and persistence in signing Nico was astounding and they never once indicated that this was not going to happen.
Future Prospects
Regardless of the decision, Jackson has some exciting new prospects on the horizon as he heads to Bayern Munich. For now, both he and the club in general are optimistic about what’s to come! The young forward will represent his talents in one of Europe’s other top five leagues. In addition, he’ll help ensure that Bayern remains competitive within Germany and throughout Europe.
Bayern Munich are obviously hoping that Jackson’s ability will fit well with their attacking ensemble. Jackson has a performance-based buy obligation. If he does go and hits the ground running, a long-term future at the club looks highly possible and it would establish him as one of the most talented players in the Bundesliga.
