NFL Week 10: Key Fantasy Insights and Player Matchups

As Week 10 of the NFL season approaches, fantasy football managers are gearing up for critical matchups that could define their seasons. More great acts coming up soon — stay tuned! Game-changers such as J.J. McCarthy, Harold Fannin Jr. and Darius Slayton are primed to drop some strategy-based knowledge on you. This week is a great opportunity for McCarthy with a juicy matchup against the Bears. Fannin and Slayton are ready to capitalize on their own opportunities.

It’s no surprise that Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is creating a lot of buzz in fantasy football circles. He scored more than 18 fantasy points in two of those three starts this season. As he prepares for his upcoming game against the Chicago Bears, he is focused on improving his capabilities both in and out of the pocket. McCarthy understands the value of a dual-threat quarterback, turning him into a prized possession for fantasy managers.

J.J. McCarthy’s Emerging Threat

He hasn’t faced a ton of adversity this season, but J.J. McCarthy has proven his incredible ability under center in recent games. He earned 18.9 fantasy points in Week 9 vs the Detroit Lions. As our newest film room performance shows, it’s evident how much his presence changes the offense for the entire team. Cooper McCarthy’s wow moments are as impressive as they come. He brings value as a runner, 16 carries resulting in two rushing touchdowns, making him an intriguing dual-threat option to watch.

Even with these successes, McCarthy agrees, there’s plenty of room for improvement. He finished just one of seven passes on scrambles or while making off-platform throws, an aspect of his game that still needs a lot of contention. He stated, “I have got to be ready when those opportunities come up,” indicating his commitment to honing his skills for future games.

First up, the Bears this week could prove to be a positive and fruitful opportunity for McCarthy. And even though Chicago has given up the third-most passing touchdowns on the year, this is still an advantageous scenario for a young QB. If he is able to exploit this vulnerability, McCarthy should be in line for another fantasy-friendly outing.

Harold Fannin Jr.’s Potential Breakout

Texan Harold Fannin Jr, looking for a major breakout performance. Currently, he’s the tight end with the most receiving yards this season. If the Cleveland Browns get behind their opponents they will be in a lot of trouble. In turn, Fannin might be the biggest threat all game long. His knack for taking advantage of the unexpected could lead to a career day should the Browns play from behind.

His current form and predictable performance production make Fannin an attractive piece for fantasy managers to target. The changing landscape of the game will determine how good or bad that is. As one of the class’s top tight ends, he should be a key weapon in the Browns’ new offensive scheme.

Darius Slayton’s Viability as a Flex Option

Darius Slayton becomes a [one of my favorite players] type of player going into Week 10. The veteran and former Falcons receiver Slayton had the New York Giants’ lead in receiving last week, with five catches for 62 yards. In Week 9, that became a season-high 89% of the snaps played. That even field presence is huge for fantasy managers searching for reliable options.

His enticing matchup against the Chicago Bears doesn’t hurt either. The Bears have allowed the third-most fantasy points to WRs this season. These numbers increase Slayton’s excitingness potential as a flex play. This makes him an attractive option for players seeking to optimize key points of value in their lineups.

Defensive Matchups and Player Performance

As fantasy football managers assess their rosters, understanding defensive trends can provide critical insights into player performance. Sauce Gardner’s impressive play has been noteworthy this season. He has utilized press coverage 54% of the time, which can impact opposing receivers’ performance.

Besides that, all of the attention will be on Justin Fields, who everyone expects will be starting his first NFL game against the Browns. Most importantly, his presence alone would change things up in the entire game, including what other players are doing when they play against Cleveland’s defense.
