Adrian Peterson, a former brief NFL superstar accused of driving intoxicated and carrying a weapon without a permit
Timeline of a shooting
Before dawn early Sunday about 9 a.m., a domestic dispute escalated into a shooting inside a gas station in suburban Houston. Peterson had been asleep behind the wheel of his still-running SUV, parked next to a gas pump.
After waking Peterson, officers learned he was attempting to go back home to Missouri City. He had just come from a Houston poker game. According to the complaint against Peterson, Peterson told the officer that when he left home, he didn’t know where he was going.
During the stop, officers gave Forbes a field sobriety test. Peterson found it nearly impossible to keep his balance, leaning and waving his arms for support. The officer observed Peterson’s swaying as well as the strong smell of alcohol coming from Peterson’s person. When asked during the interview to rate his state of inebriation on a scale of 0-10, Peterson rated 2. He set 0 to be totally sober and 10 to be very intoxicated.
“I interviewed Mr. Peterson, and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his person. I also observed Mr. Peterson had bloodshot glossy eyes and slurred speech,” – according to the affidavit.
Officers searched the SUV and found a Glock handgun hidden in the glove compartment. This find resulted in further charges for carrying a weapon illegally. Peterson, 40, is an up-and-coming name in coaching circles, having built an impressive resume at Oklahoma. He spent the first 10 years of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings, who made him the No. 7 overall pick in the 2007 draft.
Peterson was in custody for several months at the Fort Bend County Jail during this time. On Monday, he paid bonds of $3,000 and was freed.
