The NFL heads into Week 16 with a Judgement Day worth of key matchups that will decide playoff spots for multiple teams. Notably, the Philadelphia Eagles have the opportunity to clinch the NFC East with a victory over the Washington Commanders on Saturday. The Green Bay Packers would be playoff bound with a win Sunday against their oldest rivals, the Chicago Bears. On top of that, they need the Detroit Lions to lose to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In the AFC, the Denver Broncos face a pivotal moment, needing a win against the Jacksonville Jaguars to clinch the AFC West. On top of that, they need a loss from the Los Angeles Chargers against the Dallas Cowboys to hold onto their division title. The stakes are the highest in this exciting week of action as teams storm onto the field chasing their respective playoff spots.
Eagles Eye NFC East Title
The host Philadelphia Eagles will square off against the Washington Commanders at 5 p.m. ET on Saturday. The win wouldn’t just maintain their place at the top of the NFC East, but would shine a light on their strong season’s performance thus far. With quarterback Jalen Hurts leading the offense, the Eagles aim to capitalize on their momentum and secure their playoff aspirations.
Meanwhile, the Commanders will be playing with a major spoiler role in the balance. A loss for Washington would only make their season more complicated, while giving the Eagles their first division title. Both teams are fighting for their at-large lives denoting that this game should be a thrilling matchup with plenty at stake.
Packers and Broncos Seek Playoff Berths
The Green Bay Packers will face a challenging matchup against the Chicago Bears on Saturday night at 8:20 p.m. ET. A win is vital for the Packers to maintain their dim playoff chances. They would need the Detroit Lions to lose to the Pittsburgh Steelers to secure their own postseason berth.
Simultaneously, the Denver Broncos will compete against the Jacksonville Jaguars at 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday. Denver’s path to an AFC West title hinges on their performance and the outcome of the Chargers vs. Cowboys game. If they can pull it off, they’ll clinch their division title. Plus, they would clinch home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs, assuming they’d win tiebreakers over four other games to earn the AFC’s No. 1 seed.
Additional Playoff Scenarios
They’re far from the only team making a playoff push this week. The Jaguars are in the playoffs with a win. They require Houston to lose to Las Vegas—or Indianapolis to lose to San Francisco. For the Los Angeles Chargers, all they need is a win, or a Dallas loss, for them to hold on to their playoff position. Just like them, the San Francisco 49ers can lock up a spot with a win, or by virtue of a Detroit loss.
Organizations like the Seattle Seahawks and the Buffalo Bills Racing to the playoffs on parallel leadership tracks. They have to win out, and pray for assistance from other teams’ games. At the same time, the New England Patriots need to win or have Detroit lose to join the party.
