Julio Jones, the seven-time Pro Bowl receiver and two-time first-team All-Pro, officially announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday. After a remarkable 13-season career, Jones leaves an indelible mark on the league, known for his record-breaking performances and contributions to his teams.
Drafted sixth overall in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons out of the University of Alabama, Jones quickly made a name for himself. He played as a rookie, starting 13 games, and quickly showed his ability. During the next six seasons, he topped 1,000 receiving yards and at least six touchdown receptions in every campaign. His on-field chemistry with now Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan was impossible to overlook. In their time together, they formed one of the best QB/WR duos in franchise history.
Jones’s incredible knack for piling up yardage is apparent through his career numbers. During that 1951 season, he recorded three games with over 250 receiving yards, an NFL record that still stands today. Notably, he made history with five straight seasons of 1,400-plus receiving yards. This accomplishment in turn makes for a pretty damn cool NFL record!
During his 12-year career, Jones scored 60 receiving touchdowns, good for second in Falcons history. His postseason contributions are nothing short of extraordinary. He had 19 receptions for 334 receiving yards and three touchdowns over three playoff games. In 2023, Jones capped his career with the Philadelphia Eagles. He caught 11 passes for 74 yards and three touchdowns while appearing in 11 games.
In announcing his retirement, Jones thanked his fans and teammates on social media.
