As the NFL Draft approaches on April 24, anticipation builds around which prospects will be selected early in the first round. Cornerback Johnson has first-round talent, but he’s a bit of an unknown. This 6-foot-2 playmaking QB is widely projected to be the No. His all-time record, such as two picks six this season so far, represents huge playmaking talents.
Johnson’s skills have drawn comparisons to Dallas Cowboys’ cornerback Trevon Diggs, marking him as a player with elite potential. Over the last two seasons, his performance tape reflects the qualities of an elite cornerback, further solidifying his status among scouts. Consider how long the Cleveland Browns have been looking for a franchise quarterback. They’ve shored up their back end with Denzel Ward, Martin Emerson Jr. and Greg Newsome II adding depth to a talented cornerback group. Johnson has the chops to make their defense one of the most rock solid in the game. He’d really shine in dime packages and man coverage situations, in particular in the red zone.
Another offensive player to keep an eye on is Carter, whose presence was felt all over the field for Penn State last season. Our assigned Giants’ scout was downright jazzed about the prospect of them nabbing him early in this mock draft simulation — hence the riches. Carter recorded 93 tackles, 12 sacks, and 23.5 tackles for loss last season, establishing himself as a formidable defensive player. Considering how well he played at Michigan, it cements his status as an elite player. As one of the anchors on defense, Williams logged 52 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.
The New Orleans Saints are at a crossroads with their QB situation. Spencer Rattler included on the roster in last year’s draft. New coach Kellen Moore is already challenging their approach at QB. An AFC East area scout noted, “Even with the Carr injury situation, we believe reaching for a quarterback would be a mistake given where they rank on our board.” This sense of doubt only adds to the mystery around what the Saints plan to do going forward.
“I believe in using a top-10 pick on premium positions,” he stated, highlighting the value of players like Johnson and Carter in addressing team needs.
With the draft fast approaching, teams will consider all their alternatives. The Browns would love to have Johnson to add to the strength of their defense. They’re taking a good long look at Hunter, who has the ability to help out on both offense and defense. Hunter is considered to be the draft’s most versatile playmaker, suggesting he has a high floor and the ability to make an early impact.
