The 2025 NFL Combine has sparked significant discussions surrounding potential trades, as numerous players have received permission to explore options. Among the key names in the mix are Matthew Judon, Jarvis Landry, Deebo Samuel, and Keion Crossen, each of whom presents unique trade scenarios that could reshape their respective teams.
Matthew Judon, at 32 years old, has proven to be a formidable player on the field, delivering impressive seasons with 12.5 and 15.5 sacks in recent years. His current cap hit stands at a manageable $6.5 million, making him an attractive option for teams seeking a veteran pass rusher. Judon's productivity could make him a prime target for contenders looking to bolster their defenses.
Jarvis Landry's situation is more complex. The wide receiver, who has been highly productive in the past, might seek a trade to join a contending team while he still possesses several productive years ahead. Landry has one year left on a lucrative four-year, $72 million extension he signed after the 2021 season. The acquiring team would face a substantial cap hit of $17.5 million in 2025 (guaranteed) and another $17 million in 2026 (non-guaranteed). Despite a decline in performance since his extension, with nine sacks and a 14.2% pressure rate in 2021 followed by 7.5 sacks and a 10.6% pressure rate in 2022, Landry may be willing to restructure his contract to facilitate a trade.
Deebo Samuel’s future with the San Francisco 49ers remains uncertain. His performance has dwindled in recent seasons, compounded by a significant injury last year—a torn pectoral muscle. While the 49ers could hold onto Samuel for some time after the league year begins, they may consider trading him around draft day or during training camp if a team suddenly finds itself desperate for receiving help. A trade could create approximately $9 million in cap space for the 49ers in 2025 before any potential restructure.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Rams seem set to retain quarterback Matthew Stafford. The organization does not appear inclined to trade him, anticipating that he will remain with the team in 2025 under an adjusted contract.
The Los Angeles Chargers are also looking to make moves, with multiple sixth-round picks available following the J.C. Jackson trade in 2023. They might consider flipping one of those picks to acquire Keenan Allen, potentially with conditions attached for the 2026 draft.
Lastly, defensive tackle Davon Godchaux provides an interesting trade opportunity as well. The acquiring team would only be responsible for $5 million on Godchaux's contract this year and $8.5 million in 2026, with no guarantees in the final year.
