New Zealand had a convincing victory against Pakistan to go through to the semifinals. They snatched victory from the jaws of defeat by 84 runs in the second ODI match at Seddon Park, Hamilton. The match commenced at 23:00, with Pakistan winning the toss and opting to field first. While this decision ensured a furious contest on the pitch, it was New Zealand who found a way to be more excellent.
The New Zealand team was led by captain Michael Bracewell, and wicket-keeper duties were taken on by Mitch Hay. New Zealand came up with a formidable batting display, registering a mammoth 292 runs. Although they lost 8 wickets in the process, this was a testament to their strong performance through the innings. The team’s success was propelled by the depth of the roster, with many players adding key runs.
In return, Pakistan crumbled in chase of the paltry target. Despite impressive displays they were unable to chase down New Zealand’s total. Muhammad Rizwan not only captained the Pakistani side, but he was their wicket-keeper. Throughout their innings, Sufiyan Muqeem emerged as a resilient player, finishing not out with a score of 12 runs after facing 92 balls.
