"We're looking for smart, tough, aggressive, and resilient players," stated Aaron Glenn.
The emphasis is on identifying talent that aligns with the team's vision, regardless of the players' origins from small schools or big-time programs.
"We're going to do everything we can to find those guys. Listen, you can find them in all different spots—small schools, big-time schools, trades. Wherever we can find them, we're going to try to bring them on this team," Glenn emphasized.
Despite possessing a promising young core that includes standouts like Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, Jermaine Johnson, and Breece Hall—each viewed as size-speed-trait prototypes for their respective positions—the Jets face the challenge of having more needs than available draft picks on Days 1 and 2. This constraint has led to a focus on building depth through modest free agency contracts as they work on improving the bottom third of their roster.
The team's off-season signings have largely remained under the radar, with new acquisitions not graced with introductory news conferences—a stark contrast to the approach taken by most NFL teams. The new signings include quarterback Justin Fields, a former first-round pick brought in to replace Aaron Rodgers. Fields joins a roster that recently secured middle linebacker Jamien Sherwood with a three-year, $45 million contract, cornerback Brandon Stephens for three years at $36 million, and safety Andre Cisco for one year at $8.5 million.
The deliberate moves made by Glenn and Mougey signal a departure from past practices, emphasizing a long-term vision over short-term fixes.
