This week, the 46-year-old Australian football coach officially started her new job. She is currently the manager of the Scotland Women’s national team. Just last month Andreatta was named successor to Pedro Martinez Losa. She’s not inexperienced though, having served as the assistant head coach of the Australian national team — the Matildas — prior to Butts’ arrival.
Her first game in the new role will be at home against Austria to begin the Nations League on May 30. Both on and off the pitch, this moment ushers in a promising new era for Scotland’s women’s football. Next up for the team will be an away match against the Netherlands on June 3.
During her first local media appearance at Hampden Park on Tuesday, Andreatta beamed with excitement over the prospect. She promised to dive deep into Scottish culture. She told us that Scotland really felt like home to her. She can’t wait to roll up her sleeves and get to work in the community on that first incubator.
Andreatta has given her whole coaching life to Australia. Now she’s excited about the prospect of moving her family halfway across the world. She described her feelings about leading the Scotland team by saying, “I’m so honoured to have been given the opportunity to lead the team and I’m going to take it with both hands and run with it.”
Her vision for the national team revolves around continuing to qualify for all the big tournaments, as well as building talent pipelines for young players. She expressed confidence in the team’s potential, stating, “I’m confident in the process and the progress that we can make towards qualifying for a major tournament. With the players and the experience that we have, I think anything is possible with this group with time.”
Andreatta was present at the recent Hearts v Hibs match, underscoring her desire to engage with local football culture. She embodies a coaching philosophy that values hard work and honesty, declaring, “Hard-working, no-nonsense, straight-talking, humble, honest – I’m all about that as well.”
Reflecting on her career journey, she remarked, “I think my journey has led me towards being a head coach and this opportunity came up and why not jump at it?” It’s clear from her proactive planning and resounding desire to win that she launched into this new chapter ready to make great things happen.
