In a surprise reshuffle on the Scottish football scene, Neil Lennon has been named as the new manager of Dunfermline Athletic. The ex-Celtic manager will lead the side. The 34-year-old has agreed an exclusive agreement which extends through the end of the season. As Lennon heads into his first full test against Ayr United, he must confront one major challenge. Scott Brown, who famously once captained Lennon at Celtic, now manages the other team.
Lennon’s return to Scottish football has followed a checkered managerial past. After departing Celtic, where he won domestic trophies in his four years at the club, Lennon swapped to leadership of Bolton. But his time there was a turbulent one, filled with strife and drama – most notably his forcible resignation after two years on the job. Most recently, he headed up Romanian side Rapid Bucuresti. Unfortunately, his tenure extended for just three months after a brutal beginning to the season.
Quickly moving on from these missteps, Lennon’s managerial resume is filled with impressive triumphs. He led Omonia to a Cypriot Cup win and took Hibernian out of the Scottish Championship to the top level. During his spell at Hibernian, Lennon won a place in the Europa League qualification and guided the club to a highly respectable fourth place in the top tier.
Dunfermline Athletic picked Lennon as the clear choice for their available manager’s job. The team currently sits second-bottom in the Scottish Championship, six points clear of automatic relegation but trailing Hamilton Accies by one point. The board's decision reflects their ambition to improve the club's standing and performance.

Lennon said he was excited about taking up the role, and pointed to conversations with club officials that swayed his decision as a key factor.
"Once I spoke to James Bord he put across a very compelling proposition on his ambitions for the club." – Neil Lennon
Now as Dunfermline look for some stability and upward momentum, Lennon’s experience and leadership should see them through even the darkest days. His resurgent Ayr United will provide a stern examination of his powers to galvanize. Now it’s up to him to guide this talented group into a winning future for the club.
