Neergaard-Petersen Takes Lead in PGA Tour Debut at Puerto Rico Open

Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen has made a striking impression in his PGA Tour debut at the Puerto Rico Open. The 25-year-old Dane, who plays on the European Tour, was granted a commissioner's exemption for international players into the event. Neergaard-Petersen showcased his skills by shooting an impressive 64 in Thursday's opening round at the Grand Reserve Golf Club, followed by a bogey-free 7-under 65 on Friday. This performance placed him at a two-day total of 15-under 129, securing a one-shot lead.

Neergaard-Petersen demonstrated remarkable composure throughout his rounds, navigating through 36 holes without a single bogey. He expressed that once he settled into his game, it felt like any other day on the course.

"Once I get into the round and kind of get a couple holes in, it just kind of feels like any other day on the golf course really," – Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen

His impressive play comes on the heels of his second-place finish at the Qatar Masters, where he closed with a final-round 65 to finish just one shot behind Haotong Li. The conditions at the Grand Reserve Golf Club seemed to favor Neergaard-Petersen, with soft greens and mild winds providing an advantageous setting.

In close pursuit, Davis Riley is just one shot behind Neergaard-Petersen after finishing strong with four consecutive birdies for a round of 66. Riley also benefitted from the calm weather conditions, which provided a conducive environment for scoring.

Meanwhile, Austin Cook finds himself two shots off the lead. Among those tied at 12-under are William Mouw, Noah Goodwin, and Karl Vilips, all of whom are within striking distance as the tournament progresses.

Neergaard-Petersen's relaxed approach to the game has contributed to his current standing. In his own words, he remains focused on maintaining presence and concentration throughout each round.

"I'm just trying to stay in the present." – Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen

Fifteen players are currently 10-under or better, highlighting the competitive nature of this year's Puerto Rico Open. Neergaard-Petersen's steady performance thus far has set a high bar for the rest of the field.
