Najee Harris Activated from NFI List Ready for Season Opener

Los Angeles Chargers running back Najee Harris has officially been activated from the Non-Football Injury/Illness (NFI) list. This opens the door for his thrilling return to action in the first game of the regular season. Harris, who sustained a superficial injury during a July 4th fireworks mishap, missed all of the Chargers’ training camp practices but is now eligible to play in the team’s Week 1 game against the Kansas City Chiefs in Brazil.

Harris’ record is enviable. He has never missed a game in his professional career. He was put on the NFI List right before training camp started. His agent, Doug Hendrickson, had in the past expressed optimism at Harris’s progress. He said that Harris’s injury was not serious and he fully expected him back in time for the season. Chargers General Manager Joe Hortiz would go on to reassure that Harris was in fact “on track” to be ready for the season opener.

During his first four seasons playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Harris rushed for over 1,000 yards every season. During the course of his career, he claimed the title of most dominant player in the league. The Chargers aim to leverage his talents this season alongside rookie Omarion Hampton, with hopes of forming one of the league’s premier rushing offenses. Coach Jim Harbaugh highlighted his appreciation for Harris’s physical style of running, which he believes will greatly benefit the team.

Throwing him into the mix at the start of the season will be important as the Chargers set their sights on a postseason berth in 2025. The franchise has gone eight years without a 1,000-yard rusher. Melvin Gordon was the last player to do it all the way back in 2017. Pairing Harris inside could make a noticeable impact to their overall unit production. Whatever the reason behind her improvement, it should allow her to do even better next season.

The Los Angeles Chargers are getting ready for their season opener against the Kansas City chiefs. Whether you’re a fan or an analyst, everyone will be watching Harris’s impact play out on the field. His re-activation represents an important turning point for the team. They all want to come out with a bang in the next campaign.
