Wide receiver Malik Nabers needs to have surgery this week to repair a number of injuries he suffered in last weekend’s loss. The Bengals 2024 rookie sensation is expected to heal in time for the beginning of training camp. That will allow him time to recover his incredible best following an outstanding debut season and even better start to this campaign.
Nabers had a prolific junior campaign, setting a franchise record last season with 109 receptions, 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns. With 18 catches for 271 yards and two touchdowns, he’s already demonstrated that kind of big-play potential this season. Sadly though, he hurt his knee just attempting to haul in a deep ball down the right sideline. This setback halted his momentum through the first half of last Sunday’s 21-18 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
The injuries Nabers is working to fix through surgery are a torn ACL and a torn meniscus. Beyond that, he is resting a partially torn labrum and turf toe, letting those injuries heal on their own. These serious injuries have put his playing future in immediate jeopardy, but his recent recovery timeline has been promising. Nabers is aiming for a perfect 100% health this season. It would mark the first time since high school that he begins a season without thinking about or facing a significant physical challenge.
With 127 receptions through the first 19 games of his career, Nabers stands just behind Odell Beckham Jr. for the second-most in NFL history. His extraordinary playmaking capacity makes him the most vital player on the squad. His fans can’t wait to see him back in action!
While Nabers gets ready for surgery, he’s optimistic about future rehabilitation process. “We’re feeling good about the trajectory of his recovery,” team doctors said. The team hopes to have him back on the field in time for training camp. This period of time gives him the opportunity to develop his craft even more. He’ll benefit from the momentum he gained as a result of his record-breaking rookie season.
