Music Icons Shine Bright with Emmy Nominations for NFL Halftime Performances

Both Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar received Emmy nominations for their spectacular halftime shows in NFL games. The two music icons showcased their talents in separate shows, captivating millions of viewers and making a significant impact on the holiday sports entertainment scene.

Beyoncé’s concert was the kickoff for the Baltimore Ravens vs Houston Texans game on Christmas Day. She then thrilled attendees with a showcase of recent chart-toppers from her “Cowboy Carter” project. Standout tracks “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” had even the DJs remixing and extended playing their sets! Beyoncé is still warming up audiences on her “Cowboy Carter” tour. Her electrifying halftime show has landed her a nomination for the Outstanding Variety Special (Live) category at this year’s Emmy Awards.

Just like Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance, this season has captivated an astonishing audience. Created by Roc Nation and Jesse Collins Entertainment, it reached over 133.5 million viewers. It represented his record popularity and the expectations that this viewership would help carry his shows to stock high ratings. Lamar’s performance was a highlight of Super Bowl LIX, featuring chart-topping hits from his latest “GNX” album, including “Not Like Us,” “Alright,” and “Swimming Pools.”

As we write, Lamar is in the midst of his international “Grand National Tour” with SZA. This tour has only confirmed his stature as a singular figure in contemporary music. His halftime show went on to receive four nominations at the 77th annual Primetime Emmys. These are Outstanding Variety Special (Live), Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, Outstanding Music Direction, and Outstanding Choreography (Variety/Reality).

Both musicians have proven to be boundlessly inventive and sonically adventurous live. They have successfully blended music with visual spectacle, leaving audiences in awe and setting high benchmarks for future halftime shows.
