The Mumbai Indians’ woodshed treatment at the hands of the Gujarat Titans one of this season’s most lopsided contests. They rounded off their innings at 137 for 7 in 19 overs. This contest showcased a mix of skillful bowling and batting performances, with Deepak Chahar remaining not out as the innings concluded.
Gujarat’s Shubman Gill was the most confident captain. On the opposite side, Ryan Rickelton wore the pads for the Mumbai Indians. The semifinal was played at an astonishingly fast pace with countless players stepping up in impressive fashion. There was a special performance from Mumbai’s Suryakumar Yadav, who scored 35 runs off just 24 balls. Sadly for Moreno, his exhilarating performance wasn’t enough and the team regrettably lost.
Gujarat Titans’ bowling attack was their main strength. Sai Kishore was the pick of the bowlers, with 4 overs, 34 runs and 2 important wickets to his name. He was more than well backed up by Rashid, who bowled his four overs, going for just 21 runs while taking one wicket. Coetzee further upped the pressure by giving away just 10 runs in his two-over spell. Most important, though, he won his teammates another ticket!
Other bowlers made valuable contributions. Siraj bowled three overs, scored 29 runs and took one wicket. On the court, Arshad and Krishna were a perfect match to each other’s intensity. Both bowled three overs, taking one wicket apiece while conceding 18 and 19 runs, respectively.
Tilak Varma faced a tough time at the crease for the Mumbai Indians, scoring just 7 runs off 7 balls. Hardik Pandya had to deal with the same pressure, managing just 1 run from 3 deliveries. Will Jacks led the charge for the Mumbai in-form batters, hammering 53 runs from just 35 balls. In a frustrating innings by the national team, his performance was the only source of hope.
As the match progressed, it became clear that the Mumbai Indians would need a strong performance from their bowlers to defend their total effectively. The strong bowling of Gujarat Titans, paired with tactical batting, was too much for them to handle.
