Jacksonville Jaguars center Mitch Morse announced his retirement, concluding a distinguished 10-year career in the National Football League (NFL). Morse, who started all 17 games in the 2024 season, leaves behind a legacy of consistent performance and leadership on the field. His decision marks the end of an era for the Jaguars, who now face the challenge of filling gaps at both center and right guard.
Morse began his professional journey with the Kansas City Chiefs after being drafted in the second round, 49th overall, in 2015. He quickly established himself as a reliable player, starting 15 games as a rookie. In 2019, Morse signed with the Buffalo Bills before joining the Jaguars. Over his decade-long career, he started 143 games and earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2022.
Despite his recent success, Morse faced challenges during his tenure with the Jaguars. Signed to replace Luke Fortner, Morse struggled with pass blocking, ranking 37th in pass block win rate for the 2022-23 season. However, he made significant improvements in 2024, achieving a pass block win rate of 96.1%, placing him fourth among centers.
Morse's recent contract with the Jaguars, a two-year deal valued at $10.5 million, included a $4 million signing bonus and $7 million guaranteed. The agreement highlighted the team's belief in his capabilities and their hope for his contributions to the offensive line.
