Minnesota Vikings Adjust Roster Following Injury to Running Back Jones

The Minnesota Vikings enter a hostile time of their season as they deal with injuries to critical roster assets. The team’s leading rusher, running back Ty’Son Jones, has dealt with a hamstring injury. He will be going on injured reserve after last Thursday’s 22-6 defeat against the Atlanta Falcons. Jones’ stock took a real hit after he mustered only 23 yards on five attempts in that contest. Before that, he had racked up 98 yards on 24 touches and had three receptions for 15 yards in games one and two of the 2022 season.

In response to Jones’s injury, the Vikings have turned to Jordan Mason, an offseason free agent acquisition, who is expected to take on the bulk of the carries in Jones’s absence. At 30 years old, Jones has been a pivotal part of Minnesota’s running back room, but this injury leaves an opening for Mason to prove his capabilities on the field.

Besides that, the Vikings have had a fair share of news with their recent signing of QB Desmond Ridder. This offensive play keeps their options open, fortifying their D.C. influence. They are centering some of the troubles with injury and turnover, like J.J. McCarthy’s latest bad fumble this past 4th quarter vs Atlanta. McCarthy’s turnover came after he was hit, further complicating the Vikings’ situation at quarterback.

The Vikings are currently doing everything they can to re-sign running back Cam Akers. Moreover, he’s already had two non-consecutive tours of duty with the team. At 26 years old, Akers’s experience will be valuable as Minnesota looks to stabilize its running game during this difficult stretch.

The Vikings are always looking at their roster. Most importantly, they are unwilling to let injuries impact all of the good things their hard work has earned them. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how Mason steps up in his expanded role and how the overall dynamics of the team evolve with Ridder’s addition and Akers’s potential return.
