Middlesex completed a crushing 10 wicket victory against Leicestershire. They came out on top in the most recent County Championship encounter, winning by an innings and 127 runs. The final took place at Lord’s, where Middlesex showed just how good their batting depth and bowling attack were. They took maximum 22 points, and Leicestershire toiled in vain and took only 2 points from the match.
In their first innings, Middlesex managed a daunting score of 534. The star of the show though was Sam Geddes, who hit a blistering 137, showing all the skills you need to be a match-winning anchor. Mark Robson was instrumental with the bat, scoring 133 vital runs. His performance provided critical cover as the pair forged a powerful partnership. To further strengthen Middlesex’s ever-advancing position, Max De Caires made a very useful contribution of 76 runs.
Leicestershire were always 11 playing catch up after Middlesex set a healthy first innings score. Their resilience stopped there, as they were bowled out for a meager 205 runs. The team had a baptism of fire against an experienced and disciplined Middlesex bowling attack. Nathan Sharma was special on the big stage taking career best figures of 4 for 43 in the first innings. Joining Sharma in holding back the run-in onslaught, Luke Walker was instrumental, claiming 3 scalps for 78 runs.
In the second innings, Leicestershire had other ideas as they attempted a valiant comeback. Again, they only fell short, managing just 202 runs before being bowled out. Van Beek was Leicestershire’s leading scorer in this innings, making 36 not out. This was more than sufficient as the Middlesex bowlers made an absolute mockery of the contest. Josh Cornwell was outstanding, taking 3 for 60 and finishing the match with 4 wickets.
Middlesex’s bowling unit demonstrated depth and skill throughout the game, consistently applying pressure on Leicestershire’s batsmen. Walker’s brilliance, and Cornwell’s important wickets, were further aided by Sharma’s early strike that established the rhythm in the very first over of the match.
When the dust settled at the end of the game, it was Middlesex that came away with a resounding win. They proved their status as a dark horse contender in the Championship. The depth of the team’s batting order was overwhelming, while their bowlers collectively clicked to break apart their opposition.
