This win was a massive one, as it was Middlesbrough’s first consecutive league wins since 1994. Saturday’s heavy defeat at The Den was a meek Middlesbrough performance that seemed out of character to witness.
The scoring exploded just minutes into the half-time intermission. Just four minutes into the second half, Hayden Hackney put the home team on the scoreboard! Hackney kicked things off right with the teaser. Then in the 87th minute, Alfie Jones scored his first goal for the club to add a third. Delano Burgzorg finished off the night with a third Boro goal, icing Middlesbrough’s standout cup victory.
Dominant Performance
Middlesbrough played a very intelligent compose game, showing attacking creativity and completely choking the life of the game out. The visitors were proactive throughout, with Finn Azaz coming close to scoring with a powerful effort that sailed over the crossbar. After a Millwall turnover, Callum Brittain intercepted the ball in the Lions’ penalty area and set up a great opportunity for Middlesbrough’s Forss. Rob Edwards, recently appointed as Middlesbrough’s head coach, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance. This victory is a hopeful opening act to his term. More importantly still, it shows what a great team that Middlesbrough side could have been.
