Michael Kim’s withdrawal from the Truist Championship came during the third round on Saturday. He cited a back injury as the reason for leaving. The PGA Tour has officially announced his withdrawal. This decision came just days after Justin Rose, an 11-time powerhouse PGA Tour winner, withdrew from the prestigious tournament with the same malady.
Kim was slated to play with Rose in the final pairing for the third round, but she didn’t make it to Sunday’s final round. Kim was determined to take on his condition head-on. He explained, “My back wasn’t good going into the week and tweaked it the last two days. He tweeted his commitment to focusing on the fastest recovery possible, hoping to be ready in time for the next PGA Championship.
Kim expressed his determination to be ready for the event, stating he is not in a state to complete the Truist Championship and must prioritize his health.
Pegged as the 155th player in the Official World Golf Ranking at the start of the season, Michael Kim has made quite the jump. Points-leader after racking three top-10 finishes in his first 13 tour starts, he now sits 53rd. This accomplishment represents an incredible turnaround on his part.
Justin Rose’s withdrawal is just as baffling given how prolific of a player he’s been in recent events. Rose placed second in the previous two major tournaments. He finished in a tie for second at the 2022 Open Championship held at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland. Rose made his announcement with sadness, writing, “I’ve become increasingly unwell over the last few days. So, I must sadly withdraw.”
While their appearance at the Truist Championship comes to a close, the duo quickly shifts focus back to recovery. They prepare for the most influential PGA Championship to come. That’s why players and fans alike are now on tenterhooks. They want to witness the team get back to their groove before the new tournament starts.
