Michael Gallup, a seasoned wide receiver, is setting his sights on a return to the NFL in 2025. The Las Vegas Raiders recently released him from the reserve-retired list, paving the way for his comeback. Gallup’s NFL journey has been marked by significant contracts and notable performances, including a three-year, $24 million deal signed last offseason. Although he stepped away from football after joining the Raiders, he is now ready to reignite his career.
Gallup's professional trajectory took a promising turn during the 2024 season when he played 13 games, starting in 11 of them. This season was a highlight in his career as it was the only time he surpassed the 1,000-yard mark. However, his path has not been without challenges. In 2021, Gallup suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, a setback that affected his performance in subsequent years.
The Dallas Cowboys had high hopes for Gallup when they signed him to a substantial five-year, $57.5 million contract in 2022. Despite this, he struggled to recapture the form that once saw him averaging 15.5 yards per catch. His tenure with Dallas concluded after six seasons, during which he accumulated impressive statistics: 266 catches for 3,744 yards and 21 touchdowns. However, during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Gallup did not achieve a 100-yard game, recording 73 catches for 842 yards and six touchdowns.
After stepping away from professional football, Gallup signed a one-year contract worth up to $3 million with the Raiders on April 30. He actively participated in organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp, yet ultimately decided to retire briefly. Nevertheless, his passion for the game persists, fueling his ambition to make a successful return.
Gallup's football roots trace back to an impressive college career at Oregon, where he was both a Rimington Trophy winner and a unanimous All-American in 2023. These accolades underscore his potential and capability on the field.
