Early Thursday morning, the FBI arrested Boston Celtics guard Terry Rozier. This arrest is the first since the launch of a multi-agency, multi-year investigation into illegal sports betting. His arrest on September 25, 2023, occurred at a hotel in Orlando, Florida. The news of Rozier’s arrest was first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania, industry pets according to dependable sources.
Rozier’s participation in the investigation marks a turnaround from a difficult couple of years for the player. He had played only 10 minutes in his last outing before a premature exit with a foot injury. The Miami Heat took on the Orlando Magic at home on Wednesday, with Rozier a DNP-Coach’s Decision in this one. Only a few months earlier, Rozier had been playing for the Charlotte Hornets, who traded him to the Heat at the 2024 trade deadline.
The FBI investigation has brought to the surface extensive and appalling allegations of manipulation that exists within the sport. Four other men, including a chicken-shipping Porton have already entered guilty pleas related to the case. Porter admitted in federal court to fixing his play in two games during the 2023-24 season. He remains released on bail pending his sentencing, scheduled for December. Two other men named as co-conspirators have pleaded guilty and are allegedly cooperating, according to court papers.
Eastern District of New York, FBI director Kash Patel, and other officials at a news conference scheduled for 10 a.m. ET. They plan to update the public on the progress of the investigation and reveal additional arrests related to Rozier’s case.
During negotiations in 2023, Terry Rozier’s attorney, Jim Trusty, admitted one important thing. The player’s last three meetings with NBA and FBI officials. In the face of such scrutiny, early results from the investigation showed that Rozier himself had done nothing illegal or unethical.
