In a strategic move aimed at rejuvenating their offensive play, the Miami Dolphins have announced the addition of Bobby Slowik to their coaching staff. Slowik, who previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans, will step into the role of senior pass game coordinator for the Dolphins. This appointment brings together Slowik with head coach Mike McDaniel, with whom he has a history of collaboration in both Washington and San Francisco.
The Dolphins' offense, which showed signs of stagnation in the 2024 season, is set to benefit from Slowik's expertise. Despite struggles last year, the team has led the league with 19 receptions of at least 50 yards since 2022. Noteworthy performances by players such as tight end Jonnu Smith, who achieved franchise records in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns in 2023, and running back De'Von Achane, who led NFL running backs with 78 catches and 592 receiving yards, highlight the potential that Slowik can harness.
Bobby Slowik joins a familiar environment in Miami. His brother, Ryan Slowik, already serves as the Dolphins' defensive backs coach and pass game specialist. The Slowik brothers, combined with McDaniel's leadership, could present a formidable triad aimed at refining the Dolphins' gameplay.
Although Slowik's addition is significant, it does not alter the responsibilities of Darrell Bevell. Bevell continues in his dual role as the Dolphins' quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator, a position he has held since 2022. This continuity ensures stability while integrating new strategies brought in by Slowik.
During his tenure with the Houston Texans, Slowik led the team to win the AFC South and advance to the AFC divisional round for two consecutive seasons. However, the Texans faced challenges in 2024, ranking 22nd in both yards per game and expected points added, leading to Slowik's dismissal in late January. Despite this setback, his track record of success makes him a valuable asset for the Dolphins.
