Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin has boosted his status, returning to practice, fully participating for a second straight day. This development raises hopes for his return to action in the upcoming Monday Night Football game against the Kansas City Chiefs. McLaurin has missed the last four games due to a right quad injury he sustained in Week 3 vs. the Las Vegas Raiders. Today, he could not be more excited about the opportunity to return to the diamond.
McLaurin has proven his abilities this season even after missing a game with COVID. In limited action before his injury, he was able to haul in 10 receptions for 149 yards. The team is hopeful that he can make a massive impact as they work through the growing pains of their rookie-filled 2023 season.
As for me, I’m pleased to be on the mend and feel like myself, so I’m just looking forward to getting back out there, McLaurin said, looking back on how anxious he was to get back on the field. He emphasized the importance of being fully fit before stepping back into game conditions, stating, “I’m an explosive athlete, so a lot of things that are part of my game, I need to feel that are a hundred percent before I can put myself out there.”
McLaurin’s cautious approach stems from concerns about his quad’s performance under pressure. He said that ability to create space and getting away from defenders would be the main indicators in determining his readiness. “Because I’m not only hurting the team, but I’m hurting myself,” he added, highlighting the balance between personal health and team contribution.
The Commanders will be without starting quarterback Jayden Daniels, who is out with a hamstring injury. With Wentz sidelined, new backup quarterback Marcus Mariota will need to depend on McLaurin’s skill and veteran acumen. The Commanders lost some receiving depth with Noah Brown injured. He was put on IR after tearing his groin muscle in Week 2.
In addition to McLaurin’s return, fellow receiver Deebo Samuel remains a crucial asset for the team’s offense. Samuel now leads Washington with 34 receptions for 315 yards and three touchdowns. He is an irreplaceable piece as the team continues to get used to new faces.
The Commanders continue preparing for their Week 2 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. Their intent is still for McLaurin’s full participation to allow for the best performance when the lights are on.
