Rory McIlroy endured a gut-wrenching defeat to Matt Fitzpatrick in extra holes. The breathtaking confrontation unfolded during the finale title tournament at Jumeirah Golf Estates. The outcome marked a dramatic conclusion to a week where McIlroy showcased his skill and determination, finishing the tournament with a remarkable 5-under par 67. In doing so, this remarkable performance by Moore tied him with Fitzpatrick at a mind-boggling 18-under par for the week.
It was a rocky beginning to the playoff for McIlroy. On his first hole, he sliced his drive into a creek. Even after the unfortunate loss, he remained focused and calm throughout the event. Entering Chicago, he had come home grandly, closing regulation play with an eagle 3 on the 18th hole. He calmly poured in a 15-foot putt, igniting his fire. An electric atmosphere filled the room as he approached the closing rounds of the competition.
His tragic bogey on the final hole ultimately ended his quest for victory on that day. That misstep opened the door for Fitzpatrick to secure the championship. Fitzpatrick’s victory not only earned him a fifth PGA Tour title and season-ending victory, but solidified the young star’s mettle and shot-making ability when the heat is lofted up.
