McCarthy, who went No. 10 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, is prepared to take the field as his club’s first-string quarterback. He’s battled back from a rough recovery from a torn meniscus to get to this point. McCarthy’s injury in the team’s preseason opener took two surgeries and months of recovery time to heal. Fast forward to today, and he’s back on course and itching to have a positive, transformational impact.
The young quarterback went through an extreme and arduous rehab. He had a second surgery to alleviate the swelling, and he received a Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) shot to help control the inflammation. As part of the injury and recuperation process, McCarthy lost 25 – 30 lbs. By the end of winter, he was in the “high 180s.” Since that point, he has added back the weight and is once again 215 pounds and ready to roll for the 2023 season.
LasT summer in training camp, McCarthy continued to wow as a rookie, taking huge steps forward. Given the progress he’s made, much anticipation is in store for his return. His experience in training camp has bolstered his confidence, and he emphasized that being named the starter represents a personal competition.
McCarthy stated, “It’s a competition with myself and obviously it’s just putting your best body of work, my best body of work, out there.” This belief speaks to his commitment to never being satisfied and to always being the best version of yourself each day.
Armed with a renewed sense of confidence thanks in large part to his work ethic, McCarthy is hopeful for the year ahead. And then I know J.J. McCarthy ready to be the starting guy,” he said. His belief in his own skills and abilities fuels this readiness, as he aims “to simplify things to the best of J.J. McCarthy’s ability every single day.”
