Baker Mayfield, the quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, dislocated his left shoulder while playing on Sunday night. This game happened to be against the Los Angeles Rams. On one of the few pass attempts late in the first half, Jones took a deep shot. As a result, he suffered a scary fall and landed flat on the ground, in clear pain.
Before leaving the game, Mayfield went 9 of 19 for a whopping 41 yards. He passed for one touchdown while getting picked off twice. He was first ruled as questionable to return. He made a short return to action on Tampa Bay’s next offensive drive but was unused in the second half. The team eventually diagnosed Mayfield with a left shoulder sprain. On Monday, he will get an MRI to determine the extent of the damage.
MRI still isn’t back, so we’ll just have to wait and see. It’s definitely a very tough loss,” said Coach Todd Bowles in the post-game press conference. Baker’s a tough and pragmatic guy, and we wish him all the luck in the world.
The former No. 1 pick’s departure to the Buccaneers left Mayfield with Teddy Bridgewater as the replacement gunslinger. This was Bridgewater’s first major move since he last took the field in Week 17 of the 2022 season. He was then the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
“I got here today about 10:30 this morning and had to play in the game,” Bridgewater said. “You never want to see guys injured, especially your leader.”
Bridgewater managed to lead the Buccaneers during the second half, showcasing his experience and skill. If there’s one thing we know right now it’s that Coach Bowles has faith in Bridgewater’s skill set. He reiterated that Bridgewater would start if he needs to against the Arizona Cardinals if Mayfield can’t go.
Even with Mayfield’s bulldog reputation, his availability is up in the air as the team waits for results of his MRI. His performance before the injury showed flashes of potential but the interception number had many fans and analysts worried about his decision-making.
