Mayfield Overcomes Adversity to Lead Bucs to Victory

Baker Mayfield showed remarkable mental toughness in last night’s clunker of a game against the Houston Texans. He then quarterbacked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to an exhilarating last-minute 20–19 win. Sheldon Rankins — Rankins was a full participation in the team’s Wednesday walk-through with an injured foot and toe. That’s indicative of his great passion for the game.

The match moved to an exciting turning point when Mayfield went all out for a free ball. The incredible play developed with the Buccaneers up 14-10. At first, it appeared as though Mayfield had incurred a life-altering injury.

Reflecting on the risky play, Mayfield stated, “You look at that play, he took a nasty shot trying to dive on the ball.” Fortunately, he came away from the accident in pretty good shape. Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson let Mayfield know he was backing him up by commenting on the Instagram post of the great play. This specific moment had a magical effect on boosting the team’s morale in a dark period.

Mayfield finished his comments on the matter with a short, spirited statement that serves as a summary of his attitude.
